The Munster Plantation Project
1. The Blackwater Valley Project is currently examining the architectural impact of the fortified/plantation houses in the Blackwater valley region of North Cork an 1580-1650. The project includes several integrated components, archaeological and archival research, and education.
2. Ongoing research by JP-Nunan-Archaeology will contribute to further archaeological understanding of Plantation Munster through an analysis of the evolving landscape controls within the region and an examination of Undertaker identity. A multidisciplinary approach will be taken using, archaeological, historical, cartographic, and ethnographic evidence to piece together as comprehensively a picture of the complex nature of colonial settlement in Munster. This methodology will facilitate an archaeological examination of the various dynamics at play in that landscape, and will allow for a more appropriate understanding of the lives of people who lived within the Plantation region during the period 1580-1680.
